Tanzanite is a blue variety of the mineral zoisite containing vanadium and consisting of calcium aluminium silicate. The stone was formed millions of years ago of metamorphic schists, gneisses and quartzites and however, only was discovered in 1967 by Masai shepherds in the Merelani Hills near Arusha in the north of Tanzania, Africa. The stone was named as “blue zoisite” at the beginning. However the name was changed shortly after since the pronunciation is too similar to the English word 'suicide'. Tanzania, the place where the stone was discovered gave the name to the stone. What makes Tanzanite extremely unique is that it can only be found in one place in the whole world. Furthermore, its deep blue colour is what differentiates it from other gems; its colour ranges from ultramarine blue to light violet-blue and it has a polychromaticity structure which means the stone may seem blue, purple or brownish-yellow depending on the angle from which you look at it.

Tanzanite has acquired a reputation as the gemstone of the twentieth century and become one of the most loved stones. In spite of the fact that the procedure of defining the meaning of the stone in the astrological or spiritual space has not yet been completed yet, it is clear that it embodies perfection, yet elegance and symbolises everlasting excellence and beauty.
